Get to Know Systems Thinking by Drawing Toast

Draw Toast

Draw Toast is a workshop that anyone can run to help people understand systems thinking. The core idea is simple: by having people individual sketch out how they make their toast you’ll get varying ideas on how one prepares their toast.

Some sketches can start with buying bread at the store, others may start with getting the toast out of the toaster. The point is that by gathering multiple views on toast preparation the fundamentals of systems thinking can be explored.

Draw Toast is aimed at organizations to streamline their processes and how they conceptualize their networks, but it can be used in other contexts too.

Future User Interfaces and Concept Art at the Mini Bar

Noteloop, a company that makes presentation software, has a collection of what they refer to as FUI. THey describe a FUI as follows:

Fantasy User Interfaces, Fictional User Interfaces, Fake User Interfaces, Futuristic User Interfaces. Regardless of what the F stands for, they all represent the same thing, the user interfaces and heads up displays found in many popular movies and television shows.

The image at the top of the post is from the TV show Fringe, in the FUI collection you can find everything from short films to concept videos.

Speaking of concepts, there is an excellent Tumblr comprised of video game concept art. It’s called The Save Room Mini Bar and it’s filled with concept art from across all the game genres. A great source for inspiration!
